Australia’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Julie Bishop arrived in the country yesterday afternoon and started visiting areas badly hit by Severe TC Winston.

Ms Bishop landed at Nausori International Airport and left for Koro Island on board an Australian Defence Force helicopter. She was accompanied by her Fijian counterpart, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola and Minister for Natural Disaster Management, Inia Seruiratu.

This morning she joined other runners along the Suva Foreshore, including Suva Marathon 2015 Women’s Marathon winner Anna Cowley for a run.

Later in the day, the Fiji Prime Minister met with Australia’s Minister for Foreign Affairs Hon. Julie Bishop at his office in Suva.

Prime Minister Bainimarama was glad to receive Minister Bishop to thank her personally for Australia’s support following the devastation caused by ‪#‎TCWinston‬. It was also an opportunity for him to discuss with her the relief work taking place across parts of the country.

The Australian Foreign Affairs Minister commended the Fijian Government and the people for being resilient in the aftermath of TC Winston.

As part of my visit I will meet with Prime Minister Bainimarama, Foreign Minister Kubuabola and Minister for National Disaster Management Seruiratu. I will reassure the people of Fiji of Australia’s ongoing support at this difficult time.
