The Island Chill Suva Marathon 2017 will be held on July 22, 2017 in Suva announced Permanent Secretary to Youth and Sports, Alison Burchell who was chief guest at the launch of the South Pacific’s greatest road race at the Holiday Inn on Monday May 22, 2017.

Ms. Burchell said the marathon is a community event, and training with colleagues and friends can be a great way to motivate each other and can help curb Non-Communicable Disease. (NCD)
“Fiji has the second highest rate of NCD related deaths in the Pacific and marathons are great physical exercise to help curb them,” she said.
Ms. Burchell said this is why Government was in support of the Suva Marathon Club’s vision is to organise a world class annual marathon in Suva to promote healthier lifestyles.

Island Chill, spokesman Mr. Kunaseelan Sabaratnam who has once again come onboard as the naming sponsors said it’s was an utmost pleasure to remain as a key supporter for three years.

Mr. Narayan urged everyone to register throughthe website SuvaMarathon.org and said this fun activity was not to be missed. Those wanting to train up for July 22, 2017 could join the club runs every Thursday afternoons and every first Saturday of the month.
Island Chill Suva Marathon 2017
The full marathon of 42.2kilometres (km) will start at 5.30am from the Albert Park grandstand, the half marathon of 21.2km will start at 6.30am, the team marathon of four people running 10.55km each will start at 7am and the fun run of 8km will start at 7am.
“The Island Chill Suva Marathon 2017, like it preceding events, will have an 8km fun run and 10.55km team event, and the long-distance categories, the 21.1km half marathon and 42.2km full marathon. It is fair to say the shorter runs are entry-level events designed to build the public’s interest in the sport of running, with the aim of encouraging those participants to at a later stage partake in 21.1km, with the serious and dedicated ones one day running a full 42.2km marathon,” says Suva Marathon Club President Mr. Sandeep Narayan.
