LUSETA Nadaku of Vatulili, Waidina, Naitasiri, is a Bachelor of Science in Agriculture student at the Koronivia campus of the Fiji National University (FNU).
She has not competed ever in a marathon — either in secondary or primary school.
But for two reasons, be on the lookout for this former Waidina Secondary School 2012 Coca-Cola Games rep in the 2017 Island Chill Suva Marathon on July 22.
First she will compete for health issues. Second, she’s been spurred on through a pair of joggers she won last week in an impromptu quiz competition at Morris Hedstrom City Centre (MHCC), Suva.
“I am always health conscious and I always try and take part in activities that can keep me healthy and fit,” she said.
She was among the crowd who turned up at the launch of the registration drive for the 2017 Suva Marathon at MHCC last week.
“It was an opportunity to run for fun, for a good cause, and will help me stay fit and healthy, so I registered.”
She will compete in the 21.1 kilometre half-marathon.
Meanwhile, registration is still open.
Suva Marathon Club secretary Marita Manley urges members of the public — individuals, teams, business houses and families — to take part.
“Those wanting to train up for July 22, can join the club runs every Thursday afternoon and every first Saturday of the month,” Manley said.
The full-marathon of 42.2km will start at 5.50am from Albert Park, Suva. The half marathon will start at 6.30am.
