Code Of Ethics for Trustees, Board and Committee Members

A) Selflessness. 

Board and Committee Members should make decisions in terms of the Trust and Races interest. They should not do so in order to gain financial or other material benefits for themselves, their families or their friends. 

B) Integrity. 

Board and Committee Members should not place themselves under any financial or other obligation to outside individuals or organisations that might influence them in the performance of their official duties. 

C) Objective.

In carrying out business, Board and Committee Members should make choices based only on merit. 

D) Accountability. 

Board and Committee Members are accountable to the public and the SMT community for their decisions and actions, during or outside of race events, and must submit themselves to whatever punishment or scrutiny is appropriate to their position. Board and Committee Members should be as open as possible about the Race decisions and actions that have been made to the public. Board and Committee Members will restrict communicating information that is discussed in Board and Committee meetings or other information that is deemed confidential. 

E) Honesty. 

Board and Committee Members should be of good moral character and have positive and virtuous attributes such as integrity, truthfulness, and straightforwardness, including straightforwardness of conduct, along with the absent of lying, cheating, theft, etc. Board and Committee Members should be trustworthy to the Trust as well as to other Board and Committee Members. 

F) Leadership. 

Board and Committee Members should promote and support these principles by leadership and examples.
