January 30, 2018 Suva, Fiji. Lace up your running shoes and start training for the South Pacific’s greatest road race, Island Chill Suva Marathon, on Saturday July 21, 2018. The main event sponsors, Island Chill, have recommitted their support for the event for another three years and are also supporting prizes at a series of warm up events on the first Saturday of each month.

Fiji’s Assistant Minister for Health, Hon. Alex O’Connor, officially launched the South Pacific’s greatest road race at the Holiday Inn today.

The Island Chill Suva Marathon has a race for everyone! The full marathon of 42.2 kilometers (km) and half marathon of 21.1 km enable runners to set a challenging goal for the year. The team marathon of four people running 10.55km each has become popular with groups of friends, businesses and other organisations keen to motivate each other towards their fitness goals. A fun run or walk of 10km will also be part of the event and Athletics Fiji will also be supporting kids athletics programme at Albert Park.

“We are proud to recommit our support as the main event sponsor for another three years– as the key objective is to promote healthy and active living. The Island Chill Suva Marathon is an inclusive event with something to suit all members of the community – whether you are a regular runner or your just getting started. We are proud to support the South Pacific’s greatest road race and this year we are also supporting with prizes a number of the build up events starting this Saturday, February 3, with a 5km and 10km run from the Bowling Club.” Carpenters Fiji Limited, Director Retail and Marketing, Mr Kuna Sabaratnam

Tourism Fiji has also come onboard in 2018 as a partner to the event and joins other key sponsors.

“Our aim at the Suva Marathon Club is to stage a world class event that attracts runners from around Fiji and around the world. The support from Tourism Fiji will help bring in new international runners and even before registrations were officially open the new Japan flight has seen a number of runners taking advantage of this and register for July 2018,” SMC Secretary, Marita Manley. ‘For all our runners in Suva our regular Thursday club runs and our first Saturday of the month social runs, and the Munro Leys Suva Challenge are a great way to gradually work your way up to a longer distance at the Island Chill Suva Marathon.’ she added.

The Suva Marathon course is a IAAF-AIMS Certfified Course and listed as a qualifying race for the Olympic Games, World Championships and the Boston Marathon.

The event last year saw more than 1300 runners from all walks of life take part.

The runs are open to everyone in Fiji, the South Pacific and the world. For those wanting to register for the Island Chill Suva Marathon you can visit www.suvamarathon.org and visit the club’s Facebook page for regular updates.
